The Story Theatre/Grand Opera House

The Story Theatre/Grand Opera House, located at 512 Broad Street in Story City, Iowa is the oldest continually running theatre in Iowa. Currently celebrating 97 years of operation, the theatre is open nearly every weekend.


Ticket prices are only $3.00 with movies beginning at 7 p.m. The theatre also has a full snack bar with popcorn, drinks and several types of candies available.

The Story Theatre/Grand Opera House has the largest motion picture screen in Story County, a completely restored stage, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition to movies, the Story Theatre/Grand Opera House features productions by Story City's own Judge Story's Theatrical Troupe during Scandinavian Days in the summer and the annual Yulefest Celebration in the winter.

During the "Story! Celebrating the Art of Storytelling" festival in the fall, several activities are held at the Story Theatre/Grand Opera House.
